What It Covers

What Whole-House Rewiring Covers

Whole-house rewiring means replacing the wiring, outlets, and connections that have become outdated, damaged, or unsafe over the years, so the home’s electrical system can keep up with modern demands. That can include new circuits, new outlets and switches, and updated connections throughout the house.

Signs your home may need rewiring

Older wiring doesn't always fail all at once. Watch for these common warning signs in homes that haven't been rewired in decades. Breakers that trip or lights that flicker can also point to a single faulty circuit, which our electrical troubleshooting service tracks down

01

Two-prong, ungrounded outlets throughout the home

02

Knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring

03

Wiring that has been added to or modified over the years

04

Brittle or cloth-wrapped wire insulation where it’s visible

05

Not enough outlets for how you actually use the home

06

A home that hasn’t been rewired in decades

How Rewiring Works

From Inspection to Walkthrough.

Here’s how a whole-house rewiring project goes, from the first inspection to the final walkthrough

01Step 1

Inspection, recommendation and quote

We start by inspecting your home's existing wiring, panel, and outlets. Caleb will explain what he finds in plain terms, whether a full rewire or a partial update makes sense, and provide a clear quote before any work begins.

02Step 2

Plan and Rewire

Once you approve the scope, we plan the work to limit disruption to your household. We then run new wiring, replace outdated devices, and update panels or circuits as needed.

03Step 3

Test and Walk Through

When the rewiring is done, we test the new circuits and walk through the home with you to answer questions and make sure everything is working properly.

Frequently asked

Whole-House Rewiring: Common Questions

Answers to common questions about whole-house rewiring

Q1

What affects the cost of a rewire?

Cost depends mainly on the size of the home, how accessible the walls and attic are, and whether it's a full rewire or just certain circuits. Older homes with finished walls and limited attic access take more labor than homes with open framing. We walk through the home, look at the panel and existing wiring, and give you a clear quote based on what we find rather than a guess over the phone.

Q2

Can I stay in my home during rewiring?

In most cases, yes, though you should expect some rooms to be without power for parts of the work. How disruptive it is depends on the size of the home and how the work is staged.

Q3

Is knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring dangerous?

Both can function safely for years, but they have known weak points as they age, like brittle insulation on knob-and-tube or loose connections with aluminum branch wiring. Whether it needs attention depends on its condition, how it's been modified over time, and how it's being used. An inspection tells you where you actually stand instead of guessing based on the wiring type alone.

Q4

Does rewiring require a permit?

Rewiring a house is permitted work in most places, with an inspection once it’s done. The exact requirements vary by city

Q5

How do I know if my house needs rewiring, or just a repair?

Not every electrical problem means a rewire. A single failing circuit, outlet, or breaker can usually be repaired, while widespread issues like old wiring throughout the house point toward rewiring. An inspection is the only reliable way to tell the difference.

Q6

Do I need to rewire the whole house or just part of it?

It depends on the condition and age of the wiring throughout the home. Some houses only need specific rooms or circuits updated, especially if other areas have already been redone. We base the recommendation on what we find during the inspection, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
